Live the Dream!

Never Leave the Cottage!

Enjoy the Best of Country Living - 17 minutes from Downtown Ottawa

The property is located on Ramsay point, a mushroom shaped peninsula on the Gatineau River. It was settled in the late 1800’s by two brothers, David and Thomas Ramsay, who farmed the area. They sold the first lots on the point in the 1930’s with the cottagers making the journey by train or boat, many are still owned by the same families today. Ramsay is still a private road - so once you pass the train tracks and the farmhouse – everything (including cars!) slows down, you have the charm, the feel and safety of a rural community road.

Centrally located between the two historic and picturesque towns of Chelsea and Wakefield, Ramsay enjoys quick access to all the culinary, leisure, artistic and live music events that they have to offer.

Ramsay is a great social neighborhood with many working from home, the deJonge family of the farm are amongst the top guitar makers in Canada. The Ramsay Music Fest is held at the farm in July, while road events have included a German soccer tournament, outdoor films, neighborhood BBQ’s and an annual Christmas get together at #84. For the families with young children, a daycare is at the top of the road. Walk to the tracks to catch the old steam train as it passes by during summer months.

The barn at the farm, Ramsay Road.

Hiking/Walks: A typical da
ily walk from your door might be to the top of the road to collect your mail, a 15 minute stroll with a few workout hills! Alternatively, you can follow the train tracks along the river to the nearby Cascades Club or in the other direction to the back bay..

From the top of
Ramsay Road, connect to some great walks into the Gatineau Park: two 40 minute trails to the Meech Creek Valley and covered bridge, the ruins at Thomas ‘Carbide’ Willson and others. Ramsay is bordered by the Gatineau Park with over 35,000 hectares and close to 235 kms of trails.

Private Ramsay Road

Biking: There is great biking right from the front door (once you get over the Ramsay Road Hills!) A favourite, is a very scenic, 40 minute ride to Wakefield village along the old road that hugs the Gatineau river (the road is closed for family biking on Sundays).

The Meech Creek valley with its rolling farm fields and covered bridge is a great and close destination. Mountain bikers can continue into the Gatineau Park to either
Meech Lake
(40 minutes) or the caves at Lac Philippe (1hr) with a swim at the end of both trails, great for fall biking. Impressive mountain bike trails accessible from the top of Ramsay include the ‘Multiple Orgasm Trail’. In all, the Gatineau Park has 90km of cycling trials which are best suited to a hybrid or mountain bike.

Golf and Soccer: Edelweiss Golf and Country Club, is located in Wakefield. Larrimac Golf Course, a 9 hole (semi-private) club, is located in Chelsea. Dunderosa Golf Course, located in Chelsea is an 18 hole (Public) golf course. Soccer Chelsea offers a full program for all ages and abilities.

Other Activities:    Cascades Club (fitness programs, dragon boating, squash courts and summer camps). (10 mins walk, 4 mins drive), bungee jump (5 mins drive). Yoga in Chelsea or Wakefield.

Amenities:   Grocery/hardware at either Farmpoint or
Chelsea (5/6 mins drive). Library at Farmpoint or Chelsea. Breakfast/motel La Vallee (2 mins). Community Firestation (2 mins). Great local eateries including the two reknowned restaurants in the area, Les Fougeres and L’Oree du Bois (5/10 mins drive). The live music venue, The Black Sheep Inn in Wakefield is famous across Canada

Swimming/boating: Canoe, kayak, dive into or swim the pristine, polution free waters of the Gatineau River from the shared, deeded, access right across the road – 1 minute walk, 15 minute swim to the other side of the shore.

A kayak is a must and can be kept at the rear of the property next to the back bay for evening paddles and discovering the various bays and wildlife (including turtles and beavers!) nearby. Its a very scenic canoe up the river to
Wakefield for lunch. It takes approximately 1.5 hrs and the steam train will pass you by in the summer months. The next road over, Burnett, has access to the river for large boats.

The Front Bay at Ramsay.

Winter Sports Activities: A winter wonderland! The wetlands area at the rear of the property becomes your very own private playground, it has great terrain for exploring on showshoes.

Once the river freezes it opens up a huge panorama for short daily walks around the point, or a longer 40 minute walk up river to the train tracks at
Ramsay Bay, looping to the back bay. Snowshoe from your door up Mont Cascades at the opposite side of the river, amazing views to Ottawa/Hull – full moon trek recommended!

Mt Cascades snowshoe, 1hr up, 15mins down!

Chelsea grooms the train tracks during the winter for cross country skiing, accessible from the rear of the property.  The Gatineau Park has over 190 kilometres of groomed cross country ski trails. A favourite, P16 is nearby - a great ski in for lunch or dinner, spectacular on moonlit nights! For downhill skiing there are three local hills in Chelsea and Wakefield (10 mins) with Mt St Marie, the Outaouais' highest vertical, 1 hour away.

The community made rink at Ramsay, 2006.

The community clears the pond by the farmhouse/train tracks for hockey games while skating on the river when possible is magic!  The maintained public outdoor skating rink is at Farmpoint (5 mins drive). Winter ice fishing is done from the point.
